Encampment Day 1
C/MSgt Van Aken The cadets had an early rise this morning and woke up to their first day of Physical Training (PT). They later had their first uniform inspections. Some cadets went to their first orientation flight (O-Flight) in a Civil Air Patrol Cessna 182 aircraft, while others had fun activities and classes such as Leadership Reaction Courses, The Leadership Concept, Proper Wear of the Uniform, Servant Leadership and Military Air Power. All of the cadets had the opportunity to cool off and have fun in the pool from a long hot day. At the end of the day Echo flight was chosen to be the first honor flight of the 2015 encampment. NCOLS
Non-Commissioned Officer School (NCOLS): Day 1

Today, the students had an early start to their day with their morning exercise routine. During morning formation, Cadet Chief Master Sergeant Brooks was selected as Honor Cadet of the day for demonstrating initiative, leadership, and excellence among his peers. After breakfast, the students learned proper preparation and its importance when leading and making informed decisions. Lieutenant Snyder taught Servant Leadership and how good leaders place the needs of the individuals they lead before their own.
After lunch, new flight sergeants were selected to obtain command of each of the two flights. Each day, new flight sergeants are chosen at midday, and are provided with the responsibility of getting their classmates to their collective duties. Cadet Myles relinquished command of Zulu Flight to Cadet Perry; Cadet Jobe relinquished command of X-Ray Flight to Cadet Crampsey.
Later, 1st Sergeant Watson instructed the students how to conduct barracks inspections and effectively maintain one’s living quarters. Afterwards, the students enjoyed a hands on leadership exercise that required the students to choose a leader and develop a plan to cross a river using limited time and resources.
Before dinner, the students enjoyed a chance to cool off by sharing a refreshing time at the pool with the encampment cadets. After dinner, 1st Sergeant Watson and 1st Lt. Fogarty taught the importance of motivation and how to encourage cadets to accomplish their goals. The day came to a close with the students attending to their duties and preparing for the new challenges in the days ahead.
