All the cadets woke up bright and early to the refreshing feel of cool air. Cadets split into their flights to begin a 20-30 minute Indian run around the campus. They also did a lot of push ups with Major Hearn. NCOLS ran up a nearby mountain where at the top had to do many pull ups, and on the way down did mountain climbers and pushups. They had to hussle to get back in time to change before morning formation.
After breakfast the acadmeys split up and started engaging in their different activities. Encampment had a lot of flight time correcting deficiencies observed by their flight staff; drill is most common. They also got to participate in fun classes such as the cadet journey and public speaking. They had sound off battles before breakfast and lunch, where the cadets sound off to see who is loudest.
NCOLS had a day of classes learning about leadership and how to be a good NCO. The cadets learned how to conduct PT which they will if they continue to progress through the program. They also had a presentation about Norwich and what it is all about.
Honor Guard focused on the American flag and perfected handling and folding the flag. They also had a class on Air Force drill teams and Honor Guard teams. They have now begun to function as a unit and are growing closer together as a “family”, Captain Cray.
Lights out symbolizes the end of a hard day and now the cadets can mentally and physically prepare for the day ahead. It also means they are one day closer to seeing their families again.
